State and National Leaders on Early Childhood Coming to Western North Carolina to Talk About How Communities Can Improve Early Childhood and Build Strong Communities Get Set Transylvania is excited to announce a workshop featuring Dr. Mandy Cohen, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Director, alongside Dr. Jeanette Betancourt Senior Vice President of United States Social Impact for Sesame Workshop at Brevard College on March 21 from 8:30-2. Dr. Cohen will be presenting the newly released statewide Early Childhood Action Plan to Western North Carolina counties for the first time and talk about how she plans to lead NC DHHS forward to improve the lives of children and families in our state.  “This plan was created through the input of nearly 1,500 stakeholders from across the state, and is informed by careful data analysis to prioritize the needs of North Carolina’s young children. PUPPY COVERED IN CHEMICAL BURNS CARED FOR BY BROTHER WOLF ANIMAL RESCUE; POLICE SEEK ABUSER An abused puppy named Hope is now in the loving care of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue after being found in a trash bag outside of a McDonald’s in Tennessee, covered in what appear to be chemical burns. Brother Wolf learned about the puppy shortly after she arrived at Friends Animal Shelter in Newport, TN. For the past several months, Brother Wolf has been assisting the shelter with efforts to assess and rebuild their resources after an abrupt leadership change that left them scrambling to provide adequate care for their animals.  “What happened to Hope is horrific,” says Audrey Lodato, Brother Wolf’s Director of Animal Care. “Thankfully, since we have been helping Friends Animal Shelter through their transition, they knew they could call us for help. We were able to ensure that Hope would get the urgent treatment she needed in order to have the best chance at survival. At just 2 months old, she has already known so much fear, pain, and suffering.
