INDEPENDENCE DAY 5K RACE HOSTED BY ASHEVILLE OUTLETS

Asheville Outlets (ShopAshevilleOutlets.com) will host the Independence Day 5K on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. Participants can choose from the timed 5K run/walk or the 1 mile unlimited walk. Registration pricing, day of or in advance is $30 for adults for the 5K Race and $15 for the 1 mile walk. Special senior and youth pricing available. $5 from every registration will go towards either the Wounded Warrior Project or Veteran for Peace. Catawba Brewing to Host First-Ever White Zombie 5k During Asheville Beer Week

Catawba Brewing Co. is pleased to announce its first-ever White Zombie 5k, which will take place on June 1 at 9 a.m. on the last day of Asheville Beer Week. During the 5k, participants may run or walk from Catawba's South Slope tasting room through downtown Asheville to dodge zombies along the way in several "Outbreak Zones.” Racers who wish to dress in costume are encouraged to come as zombies or other Catawba characters (e.g., Farmer Ted, Evening Joe, HOPness Monster, etc.) to join in the festivities. Catawba will donate 3.5 meals per registration to MANNA FoodBank.

Anything That Floats Parade 2019

Registration for the Anything That Floats Parade is now open! This parade features people from all walks of life as they express their creativity on the river. Teams work together to create all sorts of river vessels; some simple, some elaborate, some made from recycled materials, and others made with lots of flair. Los Angeles psych pop band Amo Amo today released a playful new single, “Antidote,” premiered with Billboard. The track about separation of mind and body is off their self-titled debut album produced by Jim James of My Morning Jacket, out on April 26. The band is also joining Jim James on a national tour next month and opening for My Morning Jacket at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado this August, in addition to performing at Outside Lands in San Francisco, CA this year.

CAT FLY RETURNS FOR THIRD ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL

Cat Fly Indie Film Fest is taking over Asheville, returning for its 3rd annual spring festival March 29-31. The three day event will include over 25 short films, 1 feature film spotlight as well as educational components and mixed media collaborations by local and regional filmmakers and performers of the southeast. Opening Night kicks off with a red carpet reception at the Asheville Masonic Temple and a screening of traditional narrative and documentary short films. The event is black tie optional and the reception includes craft beer provided by Wicked Weed Brewing, as well as wine, champagne and gourmet bites all included with your ticket. Immediately following is a 2nd block of programming called Cat Fly After Dark: a Collaboration of Film and Music at the Mothlight which will showcase live performances and serve as the premiere of “Disco Paw,” a 5 part music video series.  “Cat Fly does a great job of bringing together several different creative mediums (music, visual arts, etc.) to create an all-encompassing experience…. which push the boundaries on what a traditional film festival might include.” says graphic designer Emma Ensley.
