Hooligan Scotch Ale Celebrates 5th Anniversary

hooligan scotch ale

Hooligan Scotch Ale returns a wee bit early this holiday season – just in time to leave its indelible mark on 2016. This robust, mahogany hued ale is brewed in the classic Scottish Wee Heavy style, featuring a profound maltiness with layers of rich caramel and toffee, and a restrained hop bitterness. To commemorate five years of Hooliganism, this limited release will graduate to 22oz bottles – Catawba’s first ever bottle release from its rotating series of seasonal beers. Look for Hooligan Scotch Ale in Catawba’s three tasting rooms, and in distribution in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee (beginning January 2017), and in select areas of Alabama.

CATAWBA RELEASES BLACK FRIDAY DUNKEL LAGER

catawba brewing

Something tells us your Thanksgiving dinner conversations may get a bit spirited this year – and that you’ll have worked up a thirst by Black Friday. Catawba Brewing is addressing this need with a new Small Batch traditional Bavarian-style Dunkel Lager (5.3% ABV), available at their three tasting rooms and in limited distribution. Brewed in their Asheville South Slope brewery, this crowd-pleaser is smooth, complex, and remarkably refreshing for a dark beer.
True to style, Catawba’s Dunkel Lager is deep sepia in color with a well-rounded flavor profile, its rich nutty sweetness balanced by a clean dry finish – without the dominant roasted and burnt malt characteristics of porters and
stouts. So, why not treat yourself to a stress-free Black Friday, enjoy a Dunkel Lager, and pick up some Catawba gear as gifts for those friends and family members who inspired you to go out for a post-holiday beer.

Highland Brewing Company’s Cold Mountain to Release November 10

cold mountain

Imagine calling a business meeting on a Sunday, in the morning, without serving coffee. Then add instructions: Don’t eat breakfast or drink coffee before arriving, and IF you brush your teeth, make it at least an hour before you arrive. As the group leader, you’d rightly expect attendance to hover near zero. But there is a time and place where everyone shows up. Hungry and uncaffeinated, employees arrive at Highland Brewing Company for one Sunday morning assignment: deciding the flavor profile for this year’s batch of Cold Mountain Winter Ale.
