King of Sweets Leaves Asheville Mall

The Asheville Mall has been under an increasing amount of pressure, with the opening date of Asheville Outlets a mere few days away. We've reported recently that Banana Republic has left the mall to open a storefront at the Outlets. Before European H&M moved in, popular retailer Abercrombie & Fitch closed their doors and has been recently announced to be a part of the Outlets as well.

Exclusive Hard Hat Tour of Asheville Outlets

This morning, a few staffers from AshevilleBlog got a behind the scenes tour of the construction happening at Asheville Outlets. The outlets are set to open May 1st, and the amount of work being done on the property is amazing. A total of 75 stores will be housed at the outlets, with 55 of them ready to shop at during the grand opening. In addition to the bigger department type outlets, 10 retail merchandising units will be open - these are small, local businesses selling from kiosks.

Asheville Mall Losing More Stores

The Asheville Mall, located on 3 South Tunnel Road, has been experiencing a high number of turnover in recent years. We've seen a large amount of stores come and go, and there have been plenty of rumors flying about what store is closing next. Don't worry, we already found out that Sears is not going away any time soon. Last year, Asheville Mall underwent it's biggest 'renovation' in years, where several stores relocated, and European fashion clothing store H&M moved in. While I am sure the mall anticipated this would be an impressive new draw for shoppers, it seems like other stores continue to struggle.

Bonfire Barbecue Set to Open in West Asheville

Jeffrey Barcelona is an Asheville native that will be bringing barbecue to the citizens of west Asheville on May 1st. "We've been thinking of doing this for a few years," Barcelona explains, pointing to himself and his wife while sitting in a booth at the quickly progressing Bonfire Barbecue location on Patton Avenue. "We moved to Portland Oregon for a few years, and started up a food truck." Their food truck, which served fried chicken became wildly popular, voted one of the top 10 food trucks in Portland, and appeared on Food Network. Shortly after that, the couple sold the truck and moved back home to Asheville, explaining that it was much easier to start up a business when surrounded by friends and family.

Bikini Clad Baristas Wanted for Beach Themed Coffee Shop

Asheville is about to get yet another coffee shop. This one, however, will come with a unique twist. Unlike other coffee shops in the area, Hottie Coffee will be a drive through location, with a bright beach theme. There is one aspect of this new business that has locals wondering how it will hold up. Hottie Coffee is now hiring, and requesting that baristas be comfortable donning bikini and beach wear as a part of their everyday uniform.

A new business is coming to 120 Coxe Ave on Asheville's quickly growing South Slope. Neighbor to Vortex Doughnuts, Wicked Weed, and Twin Leaf Brewery, the new BlackBerg Creative Studio offers customers something other then beer and food. BlackBerg caters to the creative types that are always on the look for new and different crafts. The brainchild of Stephanie Mergelsberg, this new spot is a hybrid of craft store, classroom space, and studio space open to anyone with a project to use.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for Wicked Weed Brewing Facility in Candler

Have you heard? Wicked Weed, Asheville's booming 2 and a half year old brewery is opening yet another facility. In 2013, Wicked Weed first opened the doors to their flagship facility downtown Asheville. In October 2014, they announced the opening of their Funkitorium, home all of all things sour. This secondary location is on Coxe Ave. Recently, the quickly rising stars acquired land out in Candler, a hop and a skip from downtown. There is a building that has been sitting vacant and unfinished since 2008, nestled snuggly in what most would refer to as Candler's business district off of Sardis Road.
